During the events of Ghostbusters Day at the Ghost Corps offices in Culver City, California, attending fans noticed a recent addition to the Hook & Ladder â„–8-styled entrance of the production offices; a plaque paying tribute to late director Ivan Reitman, listing the area in front of the offices as "Ivan Reitman Way".
The plaque serves as an understated celebration of Reitman's role in the development of the Ghostbusters property, not just as the director of the first two films, but as the person cited as grounding the science-fiction concept in the modern-day setting of 1980s America.
Announcing the plaque's installation during the Ecto-Fest event, Ernie Hudson made the following remarks:
“Ivan Reitman lives on in his movies and the way he made us laugh. And now, he will always be a part of this studio we call home.”

Last night saw the livestreamed Ecto-Fest event at Sony Pictures, featuring Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, and other members of the Ghost Corps team as they announced a series of new projects based on/expanding the Ghostbusters property:
•"Ghostbusters: Firehouse" - the code-name for a new live-action motion picture continuing where Ghostbusters: Afterlife left off, announced back in April. The sequel, like Afterlife, will be co-written by Jason and Gil.
•A new animated series announced yesterday, to be produced by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.
•A new limited comic series that will be in canon with the movies, to be produced by Dark Horse, due for release in late 2023. This news appears to confirm that the IDW Ghostbusters comic series has been officially cancelled.
•The intent to develop an animated Ghostbusters movie was re-stated, this project has been in-development at Sony since 2015.
•A project update was given on the HasLab Plasma Series Proton Pack, with Jenny Whitlock,Hasbro Vice President of Global Brand Strategy & Marketing showing off some production photos of the prop replica. Ghostbusters Day 2022 has gotten off to a strong start with the announcement that Sony Pictures and streaming service Netflix will be partnering to produce a new Ghostbusters animated series, which will be produced by Ghostbusters: Afterlife creative team Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.
This news is particularly significant as Netflix had undergone a period of animated project cancellations last month following a recent drop in subscribers and profits.
While details on the new series are extremely limited, this new project would follow in the footsteps of other popular 1980s properties that have been given new leases of life on the streaming service, such as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, Voltron: Legendary Defender, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Transformers.
GBFans will bring you more details on the new series as soon as we are able. Feel free to join the discussion here: LINK
